It has been reported in the Lancet that Irish researchers have indeed discovered a once thought bunch of parts of the stomach is it's own organ!
Here's an article in the Indepedent. In the year 2017, we have found a new organ in the human body. Remarkable!
The article mentions that Leonardo Da Vinci first illustrated and described the mesentery in 1508. The function is yet unknown, but maybe we will find that information in some of Da Vinci's notebooks in another century.
