In it together

Yesterday I saw a male Robin and a male Cardinal sitting together on a fence rail posturing like they were talking about the missus at home. Or like two family heads conversing about the neighborhood. Or like tribal chiefs considering this year's trade. There is a working relationship with the Robin and the Cardinal--I swear they were considering something. The Cardinal, a highly attractive bird that lives his life monogamously, is the center of it's small territory due to it's habit of staying in one place year around. A Robin's territory is wider spread. The Robin, a spring and summer visitor, knows to take heed to the Cardinal who spends it's entire life in one place. Good show, Robin. That's smart thinking. If the Cardinals and the Robins are in it together, then surely we are too.
