Warm wishes

Happy Birthday Samuel Langhorne Clemens!

“I know the look of an apple that is roasting and sizzling on the hearth on a winter's evening, and I know the comfort that comes of eating it hot, along with some sugar and a drench of cream... I know how the nuts taken in conjunction with winter apples, cider, and doughnuts, make old people's tales and old jokes sound fresh and crisp and enchanting.”  -Mark Twain

Check your altimeters!

My kiddo loves this song.  And since it is SO my Ma for her progeny to love songs, I say thank you for enduring that crazy childbirth episode on your birthday to have me the next day. :) It was our own tandem jump!  I think you will love this song too, Mom!  I hope you dance and have a great birthday!!!

Bloody Good!

Soooooooooooooooo....!  I just found out something else about my birthday moon!! Yeep!
It's not just a Super Blue Moon!  It's a Super Blue BLOOD Moon!!!  There's a lunar eclipse in the wee hours of January 31st that gives the moon a red tinge.  I'm going to have a lot of power on that day!

The last Super Blue Blood Moon was 150 years ago!

just got happy

cuz i realized there is a full moon on my birthday.  A Super Blue Moon!  Pretty neat how there's a super moon on the first and last day of this month.  I went out in the frigid temps on New Year's Night to check it out.  It was glaring!  I mean it almost hurt my eyes to look at it.  Stunning.  And the stars were really clear and bright too.  My favorite, Orion, was dazzling!

I'm drinking teas now.  I had to stop all tinctures.  I think I'm an idiot (or maybe just happy, I think I'm just happy).  It's possible the motherwort does not agree with me right now and I figure since it may be the culprit that started it all, then I don't need the chaste tree to regulate.  I bought valerian, but I just want to stop it all.  I do have some sage that I want to take for milk reduction, but I'm just...at a loss at what to do.

However!  Because I feel bad, I have to take something and now I'm relying on magnesium citrate  and dandelion, nettle and ginger teas.  I might take a bit of sage, still not sure.  And I think I will get back on krill oil.  I didn't mean to stop those, just kept forgetting.

I like google's image today:

from wiki: Khorana's invention(s) have become automated and commercialized so that anyone now can order a synthetic oligonucleotide or a gene from any of a number of companies. One merely needs to send the genetic sequence to one of the companies to receive an oligonucleotide with the desired sequence.

One synthetic oligonucleotide comin' up!

HBD Shea Buttah!

I hope all your dreams come true!

To commemorate, here's a little Holy Shit for Holy Shit Tuesdays, the Birthday edition--

Later, during the post-war boom, other American companies (notably General Mills) developed this idea further, marketing cake mix on the principle of convenience, especially to housewives. When sales dropped heavily in the 1950s, marketers discovered that the cake in a box rendered the cake-making function of housewives relatively dispiriting. This was a time when women, retired from the war-time labor force, and in a critical ideological period in American history, were confined to the domestic sphere and oriented towards the freshly blossoming consumerism in the US.[9] In order to compensate for this situation, the marketing psychologist Ernest Dichter ushered in the solution to the cake mix problem: frosting.[10] Since making the cake was so simple, housewives and other in-home cake makers could expend their creative energy on cake decorating inspired by, among other things, photographs in magazines of elaborately decorated cakes.
Ever since, cake in a box has become a staple of supermarkets, and is complemented with frosting in a can.

-per wikipedia

The cake mix problem was solved by frosting.  I'm in shock.

It's Digestible!  Uh?

See? Problem Solved.

A day older

My mom and I celebrated our birthdays on Saturday at La Bodega. After a Caipirinha, Smoked Salmon wrapped Asparagus and Chorizo stuffed Dates wrapped in Bacon, I looked like this...

I finished the night with a raspberry sauce stuffed Churro and a Bourbon Press. Salut!

Today, on my birthday, I bought some cute boots, replaced my tape of Jane's Addiction's Nothings Shocking with a CD and bought Mr. Deeds cuz it was cheap. Oh, and I had pancakes for dinner. Happy Birthday to me!!

the aquatic tiger video

Today is newg's birthday! She sent me a sweet video she took of this tiger jumping into water that I wanted to post today in honor of her and share with you. Unfortunately, I couldn't figure out how to load it from her email to my files. Luckily, I found this video of the tiger bath taken by my husband, her brother. We were at the Denver aquarium in May of 2008 and for some reason the aquarium included a tiger. Well, once it took a dip, I guess it really wasn't such a strange idea after all. Too bad I can't figure out how to load newg's video, she captured some underwater(!) aquatic tiger footage. Happy Birthday to newg! I see your reflection :)
