MER-MAN!
Bespoken into existence
I like the name Spright for a child.
The night before, I had a dream where I was driving around with my kids in a mixed neighborhood called Wyndfall. Seems like we bought a house there, but it also seems like we were just looking. Later in the dream, the kids and I were in a house with old worn, dusty, soft wood floors. There was an enormous oven in the kitchen. A fire was lit, I vaguely recall I may have lit it earlier, but I decided to extinguish it and hoped that the fire would go out. I was relieved it did and rejoined my kids in the living room.
Per the excerpt from a recent NYT article below, I love the idea of NORAD tuning their airspace radar from dull to sharp, like a microfiche scanner. Everything is blissfully blurry, then: Hello Alien! Ha!
What is clear is that the United States and Canada have become hypervigilant since the balloon incursion. The North American Aerospace Defense Command, or NORAD, has adjusted its radar system to become more sensitive, sharply raising the number of objects it detects.
--NYT article
Maybe that's why UFOs are blurry! NORAD needed to adjust the settings!

Currently in a wikipedia rabbit hole about the history of Slavs. I like this description about early pagan ideas and practices:
...Old Believers have preserved early Slavic pagan ideas and practices such as the veneration of fire as a channel to the divine world, the symbolism of the colour red, the search for a "glorious death", and more in general the holistic vision of a divine cosmos.
A hybrid St. Christopher and Veles, a major god in Slavic paganism:
Who were the dog-faced men of antiquity? |
Other highlights I love:
Household deity. Everyone should have a Domovoy.
One of the gods is called Rod!
Stone carved mushroom shaped idols without faces and a distinctive hat.
On certain days, people brought gifts to them, and in order to receive healing from an illness, they had to sit on an idol. The stone mushroom was respected and protected.
They used log cabin saunas
"Lyres were their baggage" --Theophylact Simocatta
Democracy! --these nations, the Sclaveni and the Antes, are not ruled by one man, but they have lived from of old under a democracy, and consequently everything which involves their welfare, whether for good or ill, is referred to the people.
