Teenage Anchoress
I gave up my life to pray for you
gave up my pretty clothes too
I didn't want to marry my betrothed
an old man from an old throne
I ran away into a cell
I was kept with nothing well
vistors in my window
like a puppet show
I'm a teenage anchoress
got on my nun dress
you know I'm not havin this
cuz I know I'm not havin it
What did I think of all day in
my one person room?
Sometimes an anchoress never
leaves and it becomes her tomb
Mostly I think of food,
but I also keep in mind the common good
I'm a lithe girl
gotta tithe girl
gonna sit here looking out into the wild world
I'm a lithe girl
gotta tithe girl
don't you know I've already died, girl?
I was there at my death ritual
now my life is habitual
pray, eat, pray, teach
pray, eat, pray, I don't preach
I'd do it all again to retain my own power
living autonomously in my miniature tower
vistors in my window
like a puppet show
I'm a teenage anchoress
got on my nun dress
you know I'm not havin this
cuz I know I'm not havin it
I'm a lithe girl
gotta tithe girl
gonna sit here looking out into the wild world
I'm a lithe girl
gotta tithe girl
don't you know I've already died, girl?
just sittin, lookin out into the wild world
